Winter Sensations

Lamborghini Urus

• The tame bull •

-

Enthusiasts of cars which bear the bull emblem were dubious at the idea of a car maker with such a sporty reputation as Lamborghini venturing into the domain of SUVs – or perhaps we should say Super SUVs ! This is a category where you can find makes such as Aston Martin, Bentley, Rolls Royce and soon, Ferrari.

Purists cried sacrilege, deeming it to be a betrayal of the racing and sports DNA of the car from Sant’Agata Bolognese (near Modena).

Design and Interior

We gladly confess that we loved it! Even in its 4-seat version, this «Lambo» totally retains its sporty character, blending grace with practicality. This car is good for daily driving. The angles of the body emphasise its aggressive lines, and yet it gives the impression of “serene strength,” owing to its nicely proportioned contours.

The interior is sophisticated. The carbon fibre and superb digital screens for managing the car’s electronic systems accentuate its elegant aspect, combined with its sporty character.

Performance

Four figures : 2 tons of car propelled from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds.

That’s all there is to be said, or almost… The beauty proves to be powerful but never brutish, especially if you choose the «Strada» (street) mode. In «Sport» mode, the animal comes alive but the handleability and road holding remain impeccable and easily controllable.

We were not able to test the car in the mountains or on snow but we did go for the “sand option” on Gaeta beach (with the permission of the local police and out of the bathing season). Our Urus behaved wonderfully and coped magnificently. Consumption was respectable. We travelled 100 km using 10l. and driving nice and gently… but can one resist going fast when there are 650 horses champing at the bit under the bonnet ?

In any case, we conclude that the Urus is a real success. The price ? Ah, yes, it’s true… 200 KEuros in its basic version… but mentioning such trivialities in the face of so much beauty is futile, isn’t it ?
