What is a “euphemism”?

When people have to convey unpleasant news to someone and feel uncomfortable doing so, they often resort to coded words and phrases to make things sound less bad. Such words and phrases are called euphemisms and are often used in business-speak. For example, the expression “we’re facing a challenge” sounds less threatening than “we have a problem”.
