From S: Hackscher Markt, take the Burgstr. exit right out of the station, follow it to the fork, then pivot right onto Oranienbur­ger Str. and zip to #84 for Premiata’s / 330 248 72 / delicate, butter-soft m/w leather fash. Cross over and duck left onto Große Hamburger Str. for vintage extravagan­za Rianna in Berlin (see Standout Stores) at #25 on the right; retrace to Oranienbur­ger Str., turn left onto Rosenthale­r Str., and left again at #40/41 into the courtyards of Hackescher Höfe. Dive into Hof III for yoof-ful threads by budding talents at BFN Concept Store / 995 434 20 / then walk through courtyards IV and VI following ‘Zur Sophienstr.’ signs for Glanzstück­e / 208 26 76 / a great selection of vintage costume jewellery, on your right. Exit right, out of the courtyards onto Sophienstr., where you can turn left for trad pastries at quaint Bäckerei W. Balzer at #30 / 282 65 37 / on the right. If not, simply cross the street to enter another courtyard at #21, Sophien-gips Höfe, for the au courant Berlin design store Gestalten Space / 202 158 21, and cawfee n’ fab lox bagel stop Barcomi’s Deli (see Lunch), then go out the opp. end of the courtyard, onto Gipsstr. Hang a left for Frosch Hammer at #9 / 173 206 06 60 / with idiosyncra­tic jewellery by designers from home and abroad. Cont. down the street for the shared workshops of J.R. at #7 / 283 871 36 / with utilitaria­n, handmade leather satchels, and Urban Speed’s crafty galtogs, then Concept Store M at #5 / 843 191 26 / beckons with its young designer stash. Peter O. Mahler at #5 / 887 094 40 / channels Yohji-esque style (m/w); next door is the unmarked Greenwich / 280 955 66 / popular with bar flies, and quickie sushi Kuchi at #3 / 283 866 22.
