McDan Aviation Signs Deal with AfCFTA Secretariat to facilitate Trade
McDan Aviation has signed a deal with the African Continental Free Trade Area ( AfCFTA) Secretariat to boost intra-Africa trade and give meaning to the AfCFTA.
The indigenous Ghanaian company is to invest in cargo planes and sea freight vessels to facilitate trade on the continent. The agreement was signed on Friday, October 7, 2022, at the McDan Private Jet Terminal in
Accra during the launch of the AfCFTA Guided Trade Initiative where seven-member countries have started trading as part of a pilot phase.
“McDan is signing an agreement tonight, investing in cargo planes and sea freight vessels specifically to support trading under the AfCFTA,” Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen, said.
Secretary-General of the AfCFTA, Wamkele Mene, speaking at the event held at McDan Aviation’s private jet terminal at the Kotoka International Airport said: “We are at this site because it is operated by an African entrepreneur. He approached us and said ‘we want to work with you, we want to support your initiative as an African logistics company “.
“This pilot phase of connecting and linking the liberation of goods with the movement of these goods is critical from the logistics point of view. So we will invite other logistics companies around the African continent to join this initiative, “Mr. Mene added.
McDan Aviation 2019 received a license to operate what can be described as the first purposebuilt FBO, offering business aircraft operators a secure and private alternative to the airport’s main terminal for international travel.
The facility includes a VIP lounge, a presidential suite, a crew lounge, and flight planning office as well as conference facilities and a hanger.
It also has facilities that will allow passengers and crew to complete customs and immigration procedures in the same building in addition to a restaurant and in-flight catering. (Writer’s email: Dominick@ AviationGhana.com)
