Ghana Civil Aviation Authority named ‘SOE of the Year’

- News Desk Report

Ghana’s aviation sector regulator, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has been adjudged the State-Owned Enterprise of the Year at the 2nd edition of the Public Enterprises League Table Award (PELT).

The GCAA beat stiff competition from 64 other State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) at the annual awards organised by the Ministry of Public Enterprises and the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA).

The event is aimed at rewarding hardworking and profitable SOEs while motivating others not doing too well to work harder. The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority continues to fly the flag of Ghana high in the aviation industry at home and abroad. GCAA is often referred to as the champion State within the West Africa Sub-region by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Ghana at its last safety assessment obtained an Effective Implementation (EI) rate of 89.89%, which remains the highest by an African State, after ICAO concluded its Coordinated Validation Mission (ICVM). At the recent ICAO 41st Assembly held in September 2022, Ghana was also elected to the ICAO Council for a two-year term. Ghana On 7th November 2022, received the inaugural ‘Flight Safety Foundation David Morrison Innovation Award’ for its leadership in developing and enabling an innovative, reliable, and life-saving drone delivery system for COVID-19 vaccines

and other medical supplies.

The GCAA continues to ensure that the Accra Flight Information Region (Ghana’s airspace) remains one of the safest in the world by ensuring adherence to Safety and Security standards. The GCAA believes that all these achievements are the results of the commitment and contribution of the Government, especially the Ministry of Transport, Stakeholders, Board, Management, and staff of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority. The Board, Management, and Staff of the GCAA celebrated their SOE of the Year award with a cake-cutting ceremony at the premises of the newly inaugurated head office complex. critical
