Aviance takes over British Airways’ ground handling services in Accra
Aviance, the largest ground-handling company in Ghana by volume, is to take over the ground-handling operations of London-based British Airways (BA) at Accra’s Kotoka International Airport effective November 20, 2023. British Airways, which has recently introduced three additional flight frequencies between London (Gatwick) and Accra, has been serviced by Menzies Aviation for years but has now opted to hand the business to Aviance.
Aviance currently controls about 80 percent of the groundling business in Ghana and the addition of BA is seen as a huge gain by its Managing Director, Mark Kamis. “Probably coming up to nearly 80% of the market share. We are taking on British Airways as of the 20th of November, fantastic portfolio for us.”
Mr. Kamis noted that the company has been preparing for the expected growth of airlines within its portfolio to be able to offer unparalleled service to its clients.
“We’ve been preparing for that. In terms of equipment and in terms of employment. We have just recently added 155 employees. So we are not only helping the airlines, but we’re also helping the economic growth of Ghana.” Aviance recently inaugurated the newly refurbished Adinkra Lounge at Terminal of the Kotoka International Airport. Domestic passengers flying to Kumasi, Sunyani, Tamale, Wa, and Takoradi, can relax and experience the tranquility of the newly renovated Adinkra Lounge before departure. It has comfortable seating, quiet areas, secluded spaces, and amenities such as Wi-Fi, and charging ports, enabling passengers to catch up on work, make important calls, or simply enjoy uninterrupted personal time.
The dishes served takes into consideration the taste and preferences of the Ghanaian domestic traveller. Indigenous foods like rice with a variety of local sauces, Waakye, and banku and okro amongst others are served on different days within the week. Assorted drinks also are available to refresh Lounge users before their flights.
