A new rule book agreed by all

-

This country needs to introduce a code of conduct regarding people from outside of politics who are appointed to government positions. In fact, it would be good if that rule book were agreed upon by all political parties, so that it would not have to be modified with each change of government. If this doesn’t happen, the country will continue to experience cases of conflict of interest, whereby government officials find themselves in the position where they can exploit (directly or indirectly) their political capacity for personal or corporate benefit. It has to be made clear that politicians should not be allowed to be in charge of portfolios which are in any way connected to their previous professional capacity. The absence of any clear principles has been politically damaging as it has caused a great deal of skepticism and suspicion. It is time to finally clear up this gray area.
