Deputy governor calls for suspension of demolitions

Deputy Regional Governor of Attica Petros Filippou on Friday called on authorities to temporarily suspend demolitions of illegal properties in eastern Attica until the ratification of official forest maps has been completed. In a letter addressed to the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Environment and the Decentralized Administration of Attica – the authority in charge of demolishing illegal constructions – Filippou asked for the temporary suspension of all demolitions scheduled to take place across the region, arguing that authorities would be in a better position to decide how to proceed with the issue of illegal properties following a decision on which areas are officially deemed to be forestland.
