Deputy gover­nor calls for sus­pen­sion of de­mo­li­tions

Deputy Re­gional Gover­nor of At­tica Pet­ros Filip­pou on Fri­day called on author­i­ties to tem­po­rar­ily sus­pend de­mo­li­tions of illegal prop­er­ties in eastern At­tica un­til the rat­i­fi­ca­tion of of­fi­cial for­est maps has been com­pleted. In a let­ter ad­dressed to the Min­istry of In­te­rior, the Min­istry of En­vi­ron­ment and the De­cen­tral­ized Ad­min­is­tra­tion of At­tica – the au­thor­ity in charge of de­mol­ish­ing illegal con­struc­tions – Filip­pou asked for the tem­po­rary sus­pen­sion of all de­mo­li­tions sched­uled to take place across the re­gion, ar­gu­ing that author­i­ties would be in a bet­ter po­si­tion to de­cide how to pro­ceed with the is­sue of illegal prop­er­ties fol­low­ing a de­ci­sion on which ar­eas are of­fi­cially deemed to be forest­land.
