SYRIZA nixes idea of voluntary military service for women
Defense Minister Panos Kammenos, seen here meeting soldiers on Rhodes on Monday, prompted a reaction from SYRIZA yesterday when he proposed that women should be allowed to volunteer for service in the armed forces. Kammenos made the comment during yesterday’s parliamentary discussion about the government’s policy program. ‘SYRIZA is opposed to the proposal for volunteer service by women,’ SYRIZA spokeswoman Rania Svigou wrote on Twitter. Currently, women can currently apply for jobs in the army but are not required to carry out military service.
