Prosecutor proposes life terms for five suspects

A Piraeus prosecutor yesterday recommende­d life sentences for five suspects implicated in the Noor 1 heroin smuggling affair. The prosecutor is seeking life in prison plus an additional 10 years and a 1-million-euro fine for Makis Yiannousak­is, the former owner of the Noor 1 cargo ship, and Giorgos Bourdouval­is, the agent. Three Turkish defendants should be handed life in prison plus 10 years and a 500,000-euro fine, according to the prosecutor. The prosecutor called for sentences ranging from 10 to 20 years for another nine defendants.The sentences are to be announced on August 2. Out of 32 people implicated in the Noor 1 affair, 18 were exonerated.
