Ship’s crew saves 41 lives

The 41 un­doc­u­mented migrants who were res­cued off the coast of Kythira, on Mon­day are to be sent to Pi­raeus, au­thor­i­ties said yes­ter­day. Crew mem­bers of a cargo ship that had been in the area, which is lo­cated between the Pelo­pon­nese and Crete, res­cued the migrants, which in­cluded 16 chil­dren and six women, on Mon­day af­ter­noon af­ter their ves­sel foundered in choppy seas. Two coast guard ves­sels and a res­cue he­li­copter were dis­patched to the scene af­ter one of the migrants aboard the boat is­sued a dis­tress sig­nal, but the cargo ship had man­aged to get them all out of the wa­ter be­fore they ar­rived. The migrants were said to be in good health.
