Ship’s crew saves 41 lives
The 41 undocumented migrants who were rescued off the coast of Kythira, on Monday are to be sent to Piraeus, authorities said yesterday. Crew members of a cargo ship that had been in the area, which is located between the Peloponnese and Crete, rescued the migrants, which included 16 children and six women, on Monday afternoon after their vessel foundered in choppy seas. Two coast guard vessels and a rescue helicopter were dispatched to the scene after one of the migrants aboard the boat issued a distress signal, but the cargo ship had managed to get them all out of the water before they arrived. The migrants were said to be in good health.
