Workers’ strike disrupts Athens Festival schedule

The organizers of the prestigious Athens and Epidaurus festivals called on workers yesterday to call off their planned strike action today, saying they will meet their demand for overtime payments.

Strike action by workers at Hellenic Festival SA, which organizes summer cultural events including music dance and theater performances as well as visual arts shows, has already led to disruptions with the cancellation on Saturday of two per- formances in the capital.

The festival organizers said in a written statement yesterday that they are prepared to meet what they described as “the just demands” of workers, and urged them to abstain from striking today.

Hellenic Festival said that if the strike does go ahead then a new statement will be issued informing ticketholders of rescheduled events or how to get a refund if there are cancellations.
