One migrant killed in crash, second critical

A vehicle carrying at least eight Pakistani migrants crashed near Kavala, in northeastern Greece, on Thursday night, killing one man and injuring the other six passengers, one seriously, police said yesterday. The vehicle, which is believed to have crossed into Greece over the land border with Turkey, failed to stop at a police highway checkpoint. A chase ensued, with the smuggling vehicle overturning on the highway after the driver lost control. The driver, who is believed to be a Syrian national, sustained minor injuries and was facing smuggling charges.
