Health protocols violated
State officials stepped up their inspections on cafes, restaurants and nightclubs over the weekend after suspending the operation of two businesses in the busy districts of Plaka and Gazi in central Athens for violating health protocols protecting customers against the spread of the coronavirus. The two businesses were fined 3,000 euros and 10,000 euros respectively following inspections on Friday night. The measures were taken as part of the nationwide checks on bars and eateries conducted by teams of the General Secretariat for Trade and Consumer Protection to curb infections with the highly contagious virus. Checks have been intensified in recent days at popular tourist destinations as Greece prepares for more foreign arrivals.
