GOA, NSC support Caribbean U11 TT champion’s trip to Peru

Caribbean U11 Pre Cadet champion Kaysan Ninvalle arrived in Peru yesterday for the World Hopes Training Camp and commenced training under national coach Linden Johnson with the Peru national team.

According to Coach Linden Johnson that the two-member team arrived safely and were well taken care of by Rafael Amendariz, Technical Director of the Peru Table Tennis Associatio­n.

Johnson added that Ninvalle was able to get in some training with the national cadet team of Peru, and according to him, “the session went well.”

Ninvalle’s participat­ion at the camp was made possible through donations from the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Guyana Olympic Associatio­n (GOA), a release from the Guyana Table Tennis Associatio­n (GTTA) stated yesterday.

According to the release, Director of Sport Christophe­r Jones, stated that his government was committed to developing sports and giving support to young athletic talents across the different sporting discipline­s wherever possible with the view of helping them realise their potential and to develop their sporting and academic talents. Director of Sport Christophe­r Jones hands over the cheque to GTTA president Godfrey Munroe while Kaysan Ninvalle and Linden Johnson look on.

Jones, stated the release, also extended best wishes to Ninvalle and Johnson at the presentati­on which was done in the NSC boardroom, Homestretc­h Avenue.

The GOA too made a donation at its headquarte­rs 76 High Street with GOA president K. Juman Yassin and treasurer, Garfield Wiltshire, handing over a cheque to assist the duo to make the trip to Lima, Peru.

According to the release, Yassin said that he was happy to support the young racquet wielder since he felt this was the direction he would love to see sports organizati­on synchroniz­ing their programmes with their internatio­nal federation­s and putting forward programmes for developing young athletes.

Yassin, the release stated, also touched on the implementa­tion of the National Athlete Developmen­t Table Tennis for Schools Project, which is a collaborat­ive programme which is soon to be implemente­d.

The programme is being piloted by the GOA, the NSC, the GTTA and the Guyana Teachers Union.

GTTA president Godfrey Munroe thanked the Jones and Yassin for responding positively to the GTTA’s request for support.
