Hello Boys and Girls,

Have you been well during this past week? Have you been working hard at school? Keep on working as hard as you can.

Last week we began to look at the human body systems. We saw that the human body is made up of many systems that help to make it work. Our body is arranged into several different systems, each with its own specific function. The smallest units in the body are cells which come in different shapes and sizes. These cells share certain characteristics and they group together to form tissues. Tissues are grouped together to form organs. Each organ has a specific shape and function. So we see that a body system is made up of cells, tissues and organs with a common purpose.

Which body system should we look at first? Let’s look at the Skeletal System. Do you think that this is the most important system of the body? You can be the judge, but as we go on you will see that each system is so important.

The Skeletal System

Touch different parts of your body – your hand, your fingers, your foot, your toes, your back, neck, head, and so on. What do you feel? Yes, bones. Do they all feel the same? These bones make up the skeletal system .The skeletal system is made up of bones, some cartilage and joints (more than one bone). Together these structures form the human skeleton. The skeleton is the hard framework of the human body around which the entire human body is built.

Look at the diagram of the human skeleton below. Look at the different bones that are there.
