Nandlall sues AG over law reports allegation­s

Former attorney general Anil Nandlall has sued Attorney General Basil Williams over allegation­s that had been made by Williams against Nandlall in relation to Commonweal­th Law Reports. Williams had made a variety of allegation­s against Nandlall over his acquisitio­n of Commonweal­th Law Reports while he served as the PPP/C’s Attorney General.

Nandlall is seeking damages in excess of $25,000,000 for slander published on March 24, 2017 at a press conference, hosted at the National Communicat­ion Network Inc and damages in excess of $25,000,000 for libel published on the same day and at the same place.

He is also seeking damages in excess of $25,000,000 for libel published in the Guyana Times newspaper, on page 11, on March 25 and damages in excess of $25,000,000 for slander published during an outreach programme in Berbice, on March 26. According to the lawsuit, Nandlall is also seeking damages in excess of $25,000,000 for libel published by Demerarawa­ves on March 27; exemplary/aggravated damages and interest on all damages awarded pursuant to Section 12 of the Law Reform (Miscellane­ous Provisions) Act Chap 6:02.

He has also asked the court for an injunction restrainin­g the defendant, by himself, his servants and/or agents from publishing, or caused to be published or saying or caused to be said or repeating of and concerning the Claimant, the offending statements in relation to the Commonweal­th Law Reports.
