Nandlall sues AG over law reports allegations
Former attorney general Anil Nandlall has sued Attorney General Basil Williams over allegations that had been made by Williams against Nandlall in relation to Commonwealth Law Reports. Williams had made a variety of allegations against Nandlall over his acquisition of Commonwealth Law Reports while he served as the PPP/C’s Attorney General.
Nandlall is seeking damages in excess of $25,000,000 for slander published on March 24, 2017 at a press conference, hosted at the National Communication Network Inc and damages in excess of $25,000,000 for libel published on the same day and at the same place.
He is also seeking damages in excess of $25,000,000 for libel published in the Guyana Times newspaper, on page 11, on March 25 and damages in excess of $25,000,000 for slander published during an outreach programme in Berbice, on March 26. According to the lawsuit, Nandlall is also seeking damages in excess of $25,000,000 for libel published by Demerarawaves on March 27; exemplary/aggravated damages and interest on all damages awarded pursuant to Section 12 of the Law Reform (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act Chap 6:02.
He has also asked the court for an injunction restraining the defendant, by himself, his servants and/or agents from publishing, or caused to be published or saying or caused to be said or repeating of and concerning the Claimant, the offending statements in relation to the Commonwealth Law Reports.
