West Berbice man succumbs to injuries after collision
A 27-year-old West Coast Berbice rice farmer is now dead, after he reportedly crashed into a parked truck along the Golden Grove Public Road, West Coast Berbice.
According to information gathered, Michael Persid of Number 30 Village, West Coast Berbice, was returning home around 12:30 am on Friday, proceeding west along the southern side of the Golden Grove Public Road, allegedly at a fast rate, when he lost control of his motorcycle, CH 7640, and slammed into the rear of a parked motor lorry.
Persid was rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital in an unconscious state and was subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. From there, he was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
However, the father of one reportedly succumbed to his injuries around 9 pm on Friday. Stabroek News was told that the man sustained major head injuries.
Persid may have been intoxicated at the time of the collision as according to reports, he had been imbibing with friends earlier in the evening.
Persid was the father of a young son; he was described as a kind person.
Traffic Chief of B Division Timothy Williams called on road users to be more cautious. He stressed that motorcyclists need to be more careful, noting that they should wear their helmets at all times. He pleaded with road users to abide by traffic laws, so as to avoid accidents.
