Stabroek News Sunday

Adequate notice was not provided about the arch work

-

In one section of the media it has been reported that the erection of the Arch on the East Coast Demerara was slated for last weekend but due to late delivery from the fabricator it was rescheduled to Thursday (‘Govt snarls EC traffic for Ansa event’ May 12).

However, notices from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure (MPI) in the print media were running from last Sunday about the erection of an arch at Industry Access Road and disruption to traffic for the period May 9 to May 11 2017.

From publications that I saw the above notice was published as follows:

Sunday May 7 - Kaieteur News, Sunday Stabroek, Sunday Chronicle.

Monday May 8 and Tuesday May 9 - Kaieteur News, Stabroek News both days.

Notices in the above publications on the dates mentioned did not indicate the duration of the disruption to traffic.

On Thursday, May 11 notices from MPI appeared in the and newspapers (that I saw) indicating the ECD Highway “between UG Access Road and Ogle Acess Road will be closed to vehicular traffic from Thursday, May 11 2017 to Friday, May 12 2017 between the hours of 08:00 to 21:00”.

Definitely adequate notice was not provided resulting in the chaos which ensued.

Yours faithfully, Shamshun Mohamed
