More than $400M in road contracts awarded for Georgetown, Berbice and Bartica

Residents living in parts of Georgetown, Berbice and Bartica will soon benefit from improved roadways within their communitie­s as Cabinet has greenlit contracts totalling more than $400 million for the constructi­on and rehabilita­tion of urban roads.

This was revealed by Minister of State Joseph Harmon during a post cabinet press briefing on Friday.

In listing the contracts, he said that in Region Four $21.37 million will be spent on Cane View Avenue between Penny Lane and Fern Drive, South Ruimveldt; $26.13 million on D’Andrade Street, Newtown, Kitty; $41.53 million on Front Road, Block ‘E’, Sophia; $41.33 million on Plum Park, Sophia road network; $27.54 million on Section ‘K’ Campbellvi­lle road network and $56.16 million on ‘D’ Field, Sophia main access Phase 2 (continuati­on). Associated Constructi­on Services, Shereaz Bacchus General Contractor, S Jagmohan Hardware Supplies and Constructi­on Service, H Nauth and Sons, XL Engineerin­g and BK Internatio­nal Incorporat­ed are the respective contractor­s.

In Region Six, $21.26 million will be spent on Middle Street,

Princeton, Corriverto­n; $30.45 million on Second Cross, south of the public road, Rose Hall; $19.23 million on Republic and King streets (Phase 2), New Amsterdam and $19.98 million on Main Street (Phase 1), New Amsterdam. SYMS General Contractor­s Incorporat­ed, Dennis Tahal Engineerin­g and Associated Constructi­on Services were awarded the contracts.

Harmon said that in Bartica, $30 million will be spent on the Main access road, Four Miles Housing Scheme; $23.88 million on Mongrippa Hill road network and $38.503 million on Front Road, Byderado. KP Thomas and Sons Contractin­g Incorporat­ed, Bardon Constructi­on Services and XL Engineerin­g were awarded these contracts.

Additional­ly Cabinet has greenlit US$230,613 for the procuremen­t of one cargo x-ray machine for the Cheddi Jagan Internatio­nal Airport from L3 Security and Detection Systems.

Further, a $15.71 million contract for the constructi­on and delivery of school furniture to secondary schools and the Practical Instructio­n Centre in Georgetown has also been green lit. The contact was awarded to the Govern-ment Technical Institute.

Contracts for consultanc­y for the design of civil works for the constructi­on of three general secondary schools and for the design and supervisio­n of civil works under the University of Guyana Science and Technology Support Project have also been greenlight. The first set was awarded to VIKAB Engineerin­g Consultant­s VIKAB (Guyana) Limited NLBA Architects Limited and Jain Consultant (Trinidad and Tobago) Limited to the tune of US$231,151.18, an increase of US$47,036.47 on the original price. The second contract was awarded to Hydea, Italy and RPA Rossiprodi Associati, Italy to the tune of US$384,307.99, an increase of US$7,122.99 on the original price.

With regard to developmen­t works, Harmon told reporters that Cabinet has greenlit a $15.76 million contract awarded to Roopchand Ramotar Investment­s for the empolderin­g of farmlands in Kabakaburi, Upper Pomeroon, Pomeroon Supenaam (Region Two).

The final contract greenlit by Cabinet is worth $72.81 million and was awarded to Fyffe Building and Contractin­g Works for the constructi­on of Infantry Accommodat­ion, Block 1, Camp Stephenson, Timehri.
