A new national champion will be crowned in the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ competitio­n after two-time defending champions Sparta Boss went down to the Money Team on Friday at the Pouderoyen Market Tarmac.

The loss, which resulted via a 1-0 score line on penalty kicks after normal time saw the match ending scoreless, highlighte­d a poor night for Georgetown teams who lost each of their encounters effectivel­y ending their participat­ion in the event.

Back Circle, the inaugural winners of the tournament, lost 0-2 to Hustlers. Kwame Holder’s 10th minute goal was followed by an own goal in the 24th minute.

In another fixture, Plaisance-B defeated Broad Street 3-2 on penalty kicks, after the game ended in a scoreless draw at the end of regulation time.

Meanwhile, West Demerara champion Showstoppe­rs sealed their place in the semi-final round, defeating Plaisance 3-0 in the quarter-final round. An own goal in the ninth minute, followed by strikes from Marvin Josiah and Kayode King into the 15th and 24th minute sealed the result.

In their earlier matchup, Showstoppe­rs brushed aside Bartica champion Riverview 3-1. Josiah recorded a double in the second and 21st minute, while Stephon Jupiter netted in the 30th minute. For the loser, Shaquille Hopkinson scored in the 10th minute.

Also sealing their berth in the final section was Hustlers who crushed the Money Team 2-0. Anthony Sancho and Jahaal Greaves scored in the 10th and 15th minute respective­ly.

Hustlers and Showstoppe­rs will now join Linden units Silver Bullets and Dave and Celina’s All-Stars at the Demerara Park venue for the semi-finals.

The winning team will receive $550,000 and the coveted trophy, runnersup$300,000 and trophy, while third and fourth placed finishers will take home $200,000 and $100,000 respective­ly.
