Boy, 7, dies after Capoey crash

-

A seven-year-old boy died at the Suddie Hospital yesterday afternoon, shortly after he was pulled from a car that ended up in a trench just off Capoey Access Road after the driver lost control.

Police Public Relations Officer Jairam Ramlakhan identified the dead child as Wesley Benn, of Lot 8 East Public Road Lima, Essequibo Coast.

Ramlakhan said investigations revealed that the car, PWW 1629, which was being driven by the child’s mother, Quinnet Benn, 29, was proceeding west along the access road at a fast rate around 3.40 pm. The child, his mother and others were at the time heading to the Capoey Lake for a fete.

Stabroek News understands that as the mother was negotiating a bend leading to a high rise bridge, she lost control of the vehicle, which ended up in a trench. By the time public-spirited persons reached the scene, the vehicle was already submerged. Those in the vehicle were subsequently rescued and transported to the hospital, where the child died while receiving medical attention.
