Po­lice record de­creases in se­ri­ous crimes for June, July

The Guyana Po­lice Force (GPF) yes­ter­day re­ported de­creases in se­ri­ous crimes for the months of June and July.

A state­ment is­sued yes­ter­day by the GPF stated that a 7% de­crease in se­ri­ous crimes was recorded for June and an 11% de­crease in se­ri­ous crimes for July, in com­par­i­son with the same pe­ri­ods last year.

Se­ri­ous crimes in­clude mur­der, armed rob­bery, rob­bery with vi­o­lence, rob­bery with ag­gra­va­tion, rape, kid­nap­ping, lar­ceny from the per­son, break and en­ter and lar­ceny, and bur­glary.

For June, the GPF said, there was a 16% de­crease in mur­der; a 4% in­crease in rob­bery where no in­stru­ments were used; a 5% de­crease in armed rob­bery where firearms where used; a 4% de­crease in armed rob­bery where in­stru­ments other than firearms were used; a 64% in­crease in rob­bery with vi­o­lence; a 3% in­crease in rob­bery with ag­gra­va­tion; a 53% in­crease in lar­ceny from the per­son; a 6% de­crease in rape; a 1% de­crease in bur­glary; and a 19% de­crease in break and en­ter and lar­ceny.

For July, it added, there was an 18% de­crease in mur­der; a 4% in­crease in rob­bery where no in­stru­ments were used; a 17% de­crease in armed rob­bery where firearms were used; a 4% de­crease in armed rob­bery where in­stru­ments other than firearms were used; a 48% in­crease in rob­bery with vi­o­lence ; a 12% in­crease in rob­bery with ag­gra­va­tion; a 26% in­crease in lar­ceny from the per­son; a 10% de­crease in rape; a 2% de­crease in bur­glary; and a 20% de­crease in break and en­ter and lar­ceny.

Mean­while, the GPF state­ment also re­ported that 81 il­le­gal firearms, com­pris­ing 51 pis­tols, 10 re­volver, 12 shot­guns, and eight ri­fles, have been taken off the streets so far for this year, com­pared to 40 for the cor­re­spond­ing pe­riod last year.
