Girl, 7, feared drowned

A seven-year-old girl was feared drowned yes­ter­day af­ter­noon fol­low­ing a mishap on a fish­ing trip at the seashore near the Guyana Mar­riott Ho­tel at Kingston, Ge­orge­town.

Up to press time last evening, the body of Jayleena Ti­tus, of Sec­ond Street, Al­bert­town, Ge­orge­town, had not been re­cov­ered.

The girl had ac­com­pa­nied her fa­ther Richard Ti­tus, her brother and a cousin on the fish­ing trip.

When Stabroek News vis­ited her home yes­ter­day, a rel­a­tive ex­plained that the mishap oc­curred around 5.30 pm.

The rel­a­tive said the fam­ily was told by the girl’s brother that while her fa­ther was fish­ing on the jetty, she was in the wa­ter play­ing. Some­time af­ter, she ven­tured out to­wards a boat, which re­port­edly hit her and she went un­der the wa­ter.

The fam­ily was told that the girl’s brother rushed to her res­cue but was un­able to pull her up from un­der the wa­ter.
