Hello boys and girls, I hope that you had a wonderful week in your new classroom. Last week we did some subtraction sums. This week we will revisit face, place and value of digits in numbers, notation and numeration to million, comparing numbers, and ascending and descending order.

Please work carefully. (i) FACE VALUE ☺ - The face value of a digit refers to same digit that you are seeing.

For example:

2 943 the face value of the 9 is 9 and so is the ☺ of 4 is 4

For example:

In 5 607 ☺of 3 is 3 The place value tells of the place in the place value of the 5 is thousand or 1 000

What is the place value of the 6? What is the place value of the zero? Insert three more place values in the chart above. Discuss the place values you have written with your friend / sibling parent.

(iii) - The value or total value is calculated by multiplying the face value by the place value.

TOTAL VALUE/ VALUE

For example: In 8 427 the value or the total value of the 8 is 8 (face value) x 1000 (place value) = 8000.

Write the value or total value of the other digits in the number. Discuss your answers with someone.

Exercise 1 Fill in the blanks ☺of — is — The number 3 426 718 is a decimal numeral.

How many digits has the numeral? Name the three digits in the hundreds period? What are the three digits in the thousand period? What is the digit in the million period? Write the numeral in the box below. 3 426 718 is read three million, four hundred twenty six thousand, seven hundred eighteen.
