GCC cops three titles as national indoor hockey c/ships conclude

Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) walked away with the men’s first division, women’s and veteran titles when the GTT National Indoor Hockey championships concluded yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.

In the men’s first division showdown, Bounty GCC edged Old Fort 2-1 on penalty strikes after the match ended 4-4.

Dwayne Scott bagged a brace in the eighth and 29th minute while Orland Semple and Jason Khalil scored in the 21st and 31st minute apiece.

For Old Fort, Askofu Simon recorded a hat-trick in the 15th, 32nd and 40th minute while Jael Gaskin scored in the 26th minute.

In the women’s final, Pizza Hut GCC dismissed INET Lynx 4-1. Sonia Jardine tallied a double in the 19th and 35th minute while Shebiki Baptiste scored twice in the fifth and 38th minute.

Renee Edwards netted in the loss in the 18th minute. The Bourda based unit made it three titles out of a possible four, as GCC Vintage hammered Old Fort 10-4 in the final of the veterans’ category.

Dwayne Scott accumulated five goals in the first, fifth, sixth, 15th and 16th minute while Philip Fernandes scored a hattrick in the 22nd, 24th and 33rd minute.

Adding goals in the 36th and 40th minute were Orson Ferguson and Patrick Edghill respectively. On the other end, Dwight Sullivan registered a hat-trick in the 17th, 18th and 29thminute while Chris Low-Koan scored in the 20th minute.

Old Fort prevented GCC from securing a sweep of the titles defeating the Bourda Boys 3-2 in the men’s second division final.

Jason Clarke tallied two goals in the 23rd and 28th minute, while Omar Hopkinson netted in the fourth minute. For the loser, Andrew Xavier recorded a double in the 20th and 37th minute.
