Transporta­tion – Places with good transport links such as roads, bridges, and railways will attract people but they shun jungles and mountainou­s areas because houses and roads are difficult to build. Added to that, these places are far away from towns and places where people live and are difficult to get to. What other reasons can you think of? Here are a few others.

Many people prefer to live in temperate climates where rainfall is adequate and there is no extreme temperatur­e.

An area with a lack of natural resources will definitely have a lack of industry and therefore a lack of employment opportunit­ies. People will not be encouraged to live in such areas. Which will you prefer to live in a crowded place or a place that is not crowded? Describe to a friend what you think it would be like to live in a crowded place.

Census

Before the population of a country can be known, a census must be taken. A census is usually taken every ten years. What is a census? A census is a count of the population to learn about the numbers, places of residence and such characteri­stics as religion, age, sex and occupation of the people. Other informatio­n such as births, deaths and migration are also collected.
