Rain washes out scheduled UDFA league matches

-

Rain had the final say on match-day two of the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) 2017/2018 senior league washing out the scheduled doubleheader at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground, Linden.

According to the UDFA third VicePresident Kelon Josiah during a brief comment, “The fixture will be rescheduled to another date. It was very disappointing that the rain came and washed out the games. We will have to do back the fixtures but tomorrow’s [today’s] games remain as is.”

He added, “Wednesday [November 8th] is also games. We didn’t get to play the previous Wednesday [November 1st] so we had to reschedule those and revise the fixtures. The two matches promised to be exciting so it’s unfortunate that rain came and washed out everything.”

Blueberry Hill was set to battle High Stars at 19:00hrs while Winners Connection was programmed to match skills with Silver Shattas at 21:00hrs.

However, the heavy downpour which occurred just over an hour before the commencement of the first fixture, inundated sections of the field, making it very dangerous to stage the respective matches.

As such, the officials decided that the fixtures could not be contested because of the state of the playing area, forcing the subsequent abandonment.

The event resumes today [Sunday] at the same venue with another double-header. In the opening clash at 19:00hrs, Topp XX will engage Botofago, while Eagles will oppose Amelia’s Ward Panthers from 21:00hrs.

On Wednesday at the same venue, another double-header will be staged. At 19:00hrs, Winners Connection will battle Blueberry Hill, whilst Net-Rockers will tackle Silver-Shattas at 21:00hrs.

The eventual top four finishers in the tournament will walk away with trophies and cash incentives.
