-Ian Daniels scores all four goals as West Ruimveldt whip Marian Academy 4-0 to win Courts Pee Wee football c/ships
It was the Ian Daniels show as West Ruimveldt secured the 2017 Courts Pee Wee Primary Schools Football Championships, outclassing 2012 champion Marian Academy 4-0 yesterday at the Thirst Park ground.
In what was a lopsided finale, Daniels, the eventual Highest Goal Scorer with 14 conversions, recorded the first ever helmet trick in the final of the event, to clinch West Ruimveldt’s maiden title.
Daniels opened the scoring in the 10th minute, latching on a throw-in from the left side of the field, before placing his effort into the lower right corner from inside the right of the box.
The burly forward made his presence felt once more, converting from the penalty mark in the 16th minute, following a handball infraction. The resulting goal knocked the wind out of the proverbial Marian Academy sails.
Daniels continued to cause havoc in the Marian Academy defensive third, sealing his hat-trick in the 28th minute with a powerful finish into the lower right corner, after racing onto a flicked on pass.
The win was sealed two minutes later as Daniels rifled a strike into the lower left corner, following a through pass.
Marian Academy was presented with a glorious chance to pull one back from the penalty mark, only for Bradley Walton to be denied by custodian Daniel Sutton 42nd minute.
With the win, West Ruimveldt walked away with a laptop computer, the championship trophy and the winning team’s medals.
For the losing team, they received a 40-inch flat screen television, the runners-up trophy and the respective medals.
Meanwhile, Sophia defeated Enterprise 5-4 on penalty kicks after normal and extra time ended scoreless in their third place playoff. With the win, Sophia walked away with 32-inch flat screen television, a trophy and medals in the while the fourth placed finishers received a 32-inch flat screen television, a trophy and medals.
On the individual side of the presentation ceremony, Daniels received a tablet computer and a trophy for scoring the most goals in the event.
Similarly, team-mate Jonathan Andries and Sutton copped the Most Valuable Player and Best Goalkeeper titles. Both players received a tablet and a trophy.
Interestingly, Sutton edged Mark Easton of Enterprise for the custodian’s award, despite conceding four goals. Easton only conceded once.
Also, West Ruimveldt coach Jamal Pedro and fan Evardney Andries were adjudged the Best Coach and Best Supporting Parent respectively. They both received a tablet.
In the 5th-8th division, Stella Maris downed St. Agnes 1-0 to secure the fifth position, while Redeemer ended in seventh place, after dismantling School of the Nation’s 3-0.
In the 9th-12th category, Parfait Harmony ended in ninth place after defeating F.E. Pollard 3-0, while Mae’s edged South Ruimveldt 3-2 to clinch the 11th position.
In the 13th-16th section, Tucville defeated St. Ambrose 2-1 to finish 13th while Goed Fortuin downed Den Amstel by an identical scoreline to end in 15th place.
