Now let us continue with National awards within the Order of Service. Military and Disciplined Services Award Who do you think are eligible for awards in this category? The awards in this group are given to the people who are there to protect and serve our nation – soldiers in the Guyana Defence Force, policemen in the Guyana Police Force, firemen in the Guyana Fire Service, and prison officers in the Guyana Prison Service.

Military Service Awards 1. Military Service Star (M.S.S.): This is the country’s highest award for military service by officers in the G.D.F. It is awarded for gallantry, that is bravery shown when in danger, in action or for distinguished service beyond the normal call of duty.
2. Military Service Medal (M.S.M.): This medal is conferred upon ranks of the G.D.F. for acts of bravery in dangerous situations or for other distinguished service beyond the normal call of duty.
3. Efficiency Medal (No abbreviation here) is presented to officers and other ranks of the army who have completed 10 years of efficient service.

Disciplined Service Awards: The recipients of these awards are members of the Police, Prison and fire Services. The awards are as follows.

This is the highest award of the state a member of the Police Force, Prison Service or Fire service can receive for extraordinary service beyond the normal call of duty.
2. for meritorious service is given for sustained and dedicated service of a high standard . 3. Disciplined Services Medal (No abbreviation here) for long service and good conduct is awarded to persons who would have completed fifteen years of continuous, full-time service without being disciplined for a period of twelve years.
Awards may be given posthumously. What does that mean? It means that an award may be given after a person’s death. You may ask, why. It is because the person may have been well respected, given outstanding service to the country or was dedicated in his/her field of work before he/she died.
