UG schools Ace Warriors

-

The Georgetown Cricket Association GCA/New Building Society (NBS) second division competition resumed yesterday at the Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) ground with the University Of Guyana (UG) schooling Ace Warriors in the 40-overs-a-side contest despite Mortland Ward’s heroics.

Ace Warriors, won the toss, elected to bat and stumbled to post a meagre 117 being all out in the 26th over.

Opener Roger Aarons was the first to go without scoring while Ward scored a quick fire 23 before he too departed off of Omesh Dhanram. Clayton Halley also scored 23 while Davendra Lall was the only other batsman to reach double figures. Dennis Haywood was the pick of the bowlers accounting for four wickets in his 4.2 overs that went for just 12 runs while the other four bowlers claimed one a piece.

In the UG innings, Dwayne Dodson was the first to fall with the score on seven and his contribution one. Soon after D. George followed for four and Dhanram (9) was trapped lbw by Ward who had at that time had accounted for all three wickets to fall, with UG, 43-3.

Ward struck once more after Heron Siwnarine had struck two boundaries on the small ground by bowling a wide delivery which Siwnarine flashed at and smart work from the wicketkeeper who noticed Siwnarine straying from his crease had him stumped for eight.

However, Lindon Austin joined opener M Persaud and the pair dug deep to put on a 52-run partnership. Persaud fell to a clumsy shot and was bowled by Lall after scoring 45 runs including seven fours and a massive six.

UG were just 10 runs from victory when new man at the crease Suresh Dhani was bowled trying to heave a delivery from Lall over mid-wicket but Austin along with Ershaud Alli saw UG cross the line on 19 and one respectively.

Ward was the chief destroyer bagging figures 4-33.
