NYPD seeking potential suspect in disabled Guyanese man’s murder

-

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has released an image which they say might be of the person who killed Otis James, a New York bus driver originally from Guyana.

James, who became paralysed after being shot on the West Coast of Demerara in 2016, was stabbed to death last Tuesday in Brooklyn, New York.

He was found in his home on Central Avenue in Bushwick unconscious and bleeding. Police say he had multiple stab wounds to his chest and blunt force trauma to the head.

The New York Daily News reported on Friday that surveillance video released by the NYPD shows a man in a light coloured sweatshirt and gray sweat pants strolling around a corner near the Bushwick crime scene.

The report also quoted NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea as stating that James may have been murdered over money he had in his home.

“There are allegations there was money in the house. That’s an avenue they are exploring,” Shea said.

James joined the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in 2005. Assigned to the Flatbush depot, he drove a bus around Brooklyn until about 2016, when he was shot during a robbery while on vacation in Guyana. After being hospitalised for months, he was allowed to retire on a federal disability pension in May. Police in New York are searching for this man, who may have killed Guyanese bus driver Otis James, in his Brooklyn home. (NYPD photo)
