Hain’s unbeaten 145 leads Lions past West Indies A

-

West Indies A fell 85-runs short in their chase against England Lions during their first match of the Tri-Series at Derby yesterday.

Lions won the toss and chose to have first go with Sam Hain smashing an unbeaten 145 to see Lions posting 318-5 from their 50 overs while West Indies A were bundled out for 231 in 44.4 overs.

The 22-year-old right handed batsman stroked 16 fours in his knock while sharing a 148-run partnership with Tom Kholer-Cadmore after Nick Gubbins was dismissed in the first over.

West Indies picked up two quick wickets including that of KholerCadmore for 67 but Steven Mullaney’s 58 late in the innings propelled the Lions to their total despite the West Indies A bowlers sharing the wickets.

The opening batsmen for the Caribbean side got off to a watchful start with Jermaine Blackwood and Chandrapaul Hemraj sharing a 50 partnership. Blackwood, the aggressor was the first to go for 40 while Devon Thomas followed the very next delivery with Chris Jordan striking twice.

Hemraj and Jason Mohammed looked to consolidate the quick strikes with a handy partnership, but when Hemraj departed for 35 with the partnership on 49, the slide began.

Mohammed followed up his back to back centuries with a responsible 52 while Rovman Powell stroked 55 but was never enough as Liam Dawson bagged 4-18 with Jordan and Reece Topley picking up 3-25 and 3-54 respectively.

West Indies will now play India A tomorrow with both teams looking for a win.
