Gomes, Verwey to square off in cat­e­gory A fi­nal

Kirstin Gomes and Ni­cholas Verwey will come up against each other in a highly an­tic­i­pated cat­e­gory ‘A’ fi­nal of the Lu­cozade Hand­i­cap Squash Tour­na­ment af­ter earn­ing semi-fi­nal wins last evening at the Ge­orge­town Club Squash Court.

Gomes (-2), who is one of the bet­ter ju­nior play­ers in the coun­try, worked her way past Mohryan Baksh (+2) in straight sets 15-8, 15-13 in the first semi-fi­nal of the evening.

Verwey, on the other hand, got his way with one of the pre-tour­na­ment’s favourite Abo­saide Cado­gan in straight sets 15-10, 15-14 to book his spot in the fi­nal against Gomes.

The cat­e­gory ‘A’ plate fi­nal will be de­cided be­tween Kamir Khan and Zack­ory Per­saud, who both com­pleted semi-fi­nal wins.

Khan in his, downed Dhiren Per­saud 15-7, 15-5 while Per­saud had the bet­ter of Luis Da Silva 15-5, 15-12.

Mean­while, Ny­ron Joseph (-16) once again dis­played his en­durance and range to de­feat Steven Xavier in first open semi­fi­nal 15-9, 15-9.

Joseph will face Deje Dias who de­feated Re­gan Pol­lard 12-15, 15 -5, 15-2 in the fi­nal.

The open plate fi­nal will be de­cided be­tween Ian Mekdeci and Joshua Ab­dool.

Mekdeci (+5) worked his way into the fi­nal by de­feat­ing Ash­ley Khalil (4) 15-4, 15-6 while Ab­dool de­feated John Maikoo 1510, 15-13.
