Albion eke out one-wicket win over RHTG&G
A low-scoring match which saw two half centuries and two five wicket hauls, also saw Albion Cricket Club eke out a one-wicket win over Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets yesterday in the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Pepsi 50 overs tournament.
Playing at the Area ‘H’ Ground under overcast conditions and on a slow pitch, Rose Hall Town batted first and despite a good start were bowled out for 139 in 37.4 overs. Albion, in reply, reached 140-9 in 35.3 overs. Rose Hall Town, missing three key players, began with cousins and National U19 duo, Kevin and Junior Sinclair putting on 70 for the first wicket.
Off-spinner David Latchaya broke the partnership in the 20th over with the wicket of Junior Sinclair for 22 and Kevin Sinclair followed in Latchya’s next over. He had stroked five fours and two sixes but held out to mid-wicket for an even 50 while Kevlon Anderson’s 34 include four fours.
No other batsman managed double figures while five batsmen failed to score.
Latchaya ended with 5-32 while Shiraz Ramcharran took 3-27 from 9.4 overs and Kelvin Umroa and Gourav Ramesh one wicket each.
In reply, Sylus Tyndall struck twice in the third over to help reduce Albion to 58-6.
A seventh-wicket stand of 58 between Umroa and Ramcharran brought Albion back into the contest before Ramcharran fell for 56, hitting six fours and three sixes.
Ramcharran was dropped on 26 at deep square leg off of Tyndall, one of five catches grassed by Rose Hall Town fielders.
Former Guyana under-19 captain, Shawn Pereira took two wickets to swing the match back in favor of Rose Hall Town but Umroa finished unbeaten on 16. Latchaya’s knock of 10 (with two boundaries) was the only other double figure score. Tyndall finished with 531 and Pereira 2-26.
