Tridents lose Wahab, Imad to international commitments

– Barbados Tridents have suffered a blow ahead of their opening game of the Caribbean Premier League today, with left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz ruled out due to international commitments with Pakistan.

The 34-year-old, who played 27 Tests, 87 one-dayers and is a veteran of 220 Twenty20s, has been the Tridents’ most consistent bowler for the last two seasons, picking up nine wickets last year and 10 wickets in the 2018 campaign.

He has been replaced by unknown Australian left-arm pacer Josh Lalor, who has never played international cricket.

However, the 31-year-old enjoyed a productive season with Brisbane Heat in the last Big Bash League campaign, bagging 20 wickets.

Wahab is one of two players Tridents will miss as another Pakistan international,

left-arm spinner Imad Wasim, has also been called up to senior team duty.

The 30-year-old, who has played 52 one-dayers and 153 T20s, spent a couple of seasons with Jamaica Tallawahs and was in his maiden season for Tridents.

He has been replaced by veteran South African JP Duminy, a left-handed batsman and left-arm spinner who was good enough to play 46 Tests, 199 one-dayers and 252 T20s.

Tridents open their campaign against Guyana Amazon Warriors at the National Stadium in Georgetown.

The 2014 champions have had a wretched run for the last three season, failing to reach the playoffs of the region’s flagship domestic T20 tournament.

Last year, Tridents finished bottom of the six-team standings after losing eight of their 10 preliminary round matches.
