Dey could be hard-pressed to defend title

-

Curtis Dey will look to defend his Victor Macedo Memorial race title today when the 17th edition of the event pedals off at 10:00hrs on the outer circuit of the National Park.

Dey won the event last year when it was staged from Homestretch Avenue to the Linden/Soesdyke Highway and back after out riding a strong 50-man field.

However, with the likes of the inform, Briton John and a slew of other notable wheelsmen like Jamaul John, Paul DeNobrega, Michael Anthony, Romello Crawford and Andre Green, Dey may be hard pressed for a repeat.

The race will see the riders competing in a 25-lap battle (60 miles) for the top honours.

This race which will see the top 10 finishers pocketing lucrative prizes, is set to attracting a sprint prize for each lap.

There will be prizes for the most aggressive rider and best team which will see the riders starting on Vlissengen Road, a stone’s throw before the Guyana Defence Force entrance, head north, before turning into CARIFESTA Avenue. They will then head west before turning into Camp Street. They will then turn left into Thomas Lands, head east and turn into Vlissengen Road to complete a lap.

Meanwhile, there will be no mountain bike category this year, but there will be categories such as BMX/Open, Juniors (four laps), Females (two laps), Veterans Under 45 (five laps) and Veterans Over 45 (four laps). Each category will have prizes for the top three riders as well as sprint prizes for each lap.

Registration is set for 9:30 hours and will attract a fee of $2,000 while late registration will see riders having to pay an additional $1,000.

Last year, Ajay Gopilall won the Juniors while Ian Jackson won the veteran’s division. Jude Bentley captured the Mountain Bike title.

The event is sponsored by Macedo Transportation services and organised by the Flying Stars Cycling Club. See you there.

Munroe denied that there is any skullduggery afoot at the association.

“There is nothing sinister happening in this association. I will not accommodate and be engaging with you in any back-andforth after this missive. My time will be spent bringing positive changes to this association.

“I, therefore, wish to formally indicate to you that If you are displeased I, suggest that you await the duly scheduled period for an audit which is at the end of the tenure of the life of this association 2019 or call the police,” Munroe said.

Munroe concluded the response by noting that he will ask executive members of the GTTA to disregard any request from Pratt under the statues of the anti-harassment policy given his conduct to bring the sport into disrepute.
