Here are some sentences and phrases you need to know if you are in a beautiful place with beautiful people: —!Qué lugar tan hermoso! /What a beautiful place!

— El clima es perfecto aquí. / The weather is perfect here.

—Buenas tardes, Señor. ¿Dónde está el hotel? / Good morning, Sir, where is the hotel? ¿Dónde está la playa? / Where is the beach? —Usted tiene una tienda hermosa, Señora. / You have a beautiful store, Ma’am.

—¿Dónde puedo tomar un autobús/taxi? / Where can I take a bus/ taxi? — Está a la derecha. / It is on the right. —Está a la izquierda. / It is on the left. —La panadería en la esquina. / The bakery on the

corner. —¿Hay un restaurant­e por aquí? / Is there a

restaurant around here? —Al lado del mercado. Detras de la tiende de flo res. / Next to the market. Behind the flower shop. If you are in trouble: —¡Socorro! ¡Socorro! / Help! Help! —¡Ayúdame, por favor! Help me, please! —Disculpe, Señora, estoy perdido/a. / Excuse me Ma’am, I am lost. (remember “perdido” if you are a boy and “perdida” if you are a girl). —¿Dónde está la estación de policía? Where is the police station? —¿Dónde está el hospital? / Where is the hospital? —¿Hay una farmacia por aquí? / Is there a pharmacy around here? —¿Cómo se llama esta calle/ avenida? / What is the name of this street/ avenue? Things to note: There are many words that are the same in Spanish as in English. Some are only slightly different: E.g. Taxi, hotel, hospital, restaurant­e etc.

Remember that the “h” sound at the beginning of a word in Spanish is silent.
