The Reproductive System
Hello Boys and Girls,
Did you have a good week? Did you participate in the National Athletic Championships? How well did your team perform?
Did you have fun with the word search last week? Last week we completed our work on the Excretory System. What very interesting things we found out! Keep revising.
This week we will examine the Reproductive System. It is yet another important system of the body.
Living things are made in such a way that they make others like themselves. When they die, others are there to continue. That is why living things are still around today.
Reproduction occurs in human beings. It is the formation of a new human being similar to its parents and is a characteristic of living things. Reproduction in human beings involves a male and a female. It involves the union of an egg and a sperm. The egg or ovum (plural ova) is produced in the ovaries of females. The sperm is produced in the testes of the males. The human sperm is extremely small and is shaped like a tadpole with a head and a tail. The human egg is a single cell but it is much larger than the sperm. It is shaped like a ball and around it is a thin layer of a jelly-like substance.
If a sperm gets close to an egg, it bumps into it repeatedly and later may penetrate or bore into it.

Except for the muscular, nervous and glandular systems, we have looked at all the other systems of the body. Try to name all these systems now without looking back. All these systems are interconnected. They function in such a way that the body is seen to operate as a unit. For example, all the organs of the body are supplied with nerves and blood vessels. The bony framework of the body helps to support all the organs. Without food and oxygen, the body will not survive, and waste must be got rid of.
Let’s see how well you will do with the following questions.
