Mark Wiltshire, right, receives, the third place trophy from Lloyd Rollins

If the draw is anything to go by, the winner of today’s Brian Tiwari birth anniversary 9-a-side Inter-Ward football tournament, should be a team from West Demerara.

That is because West Demerara boast several teams in the 12-team competition which will get cracking at 4pm this afternoon at the Leonora Community Centre ground.

The opening six games will determine the teams advancing to the money round.

West Demerara teams such as Pouderoyen, Crane, Den Amstel, Den Amstel Kings and Wales will obviously be gunning to keep the prize money on the West side.

A number of quality players such as Trayon Bobb and Delon Lanferman will be on show in the tournament which has been organized by former national coach Lennox Arthur in recognition of Tiwari’s birthday.

The first prize is $200,000 and the Bradley Gabriel trophy, while second, third and fourth place finishers will take home $100,000 and the Kane Gabriel trophy, $60,000 and $40,000 respectively.

The fixtures are as follows:

Wales vs. Soesdyke

Gaza vs. Plaisance

Pouderoyen vs. Hurry Ate

Den Amstel Kings vs. Timehri

Den Amstel vs. Crane

West Side Spartans vs. Casa Coima

Today is D Day, the time is 2pm and the place is Rona Place (pardon the pun), Ogle.

The event, the second Champion-ofChampions dominoes extravaganza organized by Mark Wiltshire, himself a dominoes player extraordinaire.

Yesterday, Lloyd Rollins, an ardent dominoes fan, at a simple ceremony held at Trophy Stall, Bourda Market, presented the third place trophy to organiser Wiltshire.

Rollins in brief remarks, exhorted Wiltshire to ensure that the level of discipline is of a high standard and wished the teams well.

Rollins said that he is always happy to be involved in the sport.

Wiltshire, who is the captain of Mix Up one of the top teams in the country, expressed gratitude to Rollins for the gesture.

Only teams which have won tournaments for the 2019 season will be eligible to participate in the year end grand finale.

Wiltshire, however, informed that a number of guest teams will be accommodated.

Entrance fee is $12,000 and at stake are cash prizes, trophies, medals and hampers.

Teams are asked to be on time to facilitate a prompt start at 14:00hrs.

Teams can call Wiltshire on 659 8672 for registration.
