Guyana Jaguars all-rounder Christopher Barnwell displayed his perpetual best yesterday, grabbing 6-16 and stroked a flowing century to hand the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) first day honours over the University of Guyana (UG) in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), GISE, Star Party Rental and Trophy Stall firstdivision, two-day competition at DCC.

DCC after bundling out UG for 94 just before lunch, made 301 when the 10th wicket fell moments before stumps. UG, batting a second time, ended the day on 0-0, trailing by 207 runs heading into the second day.

Barnwell, who was the focal point of the day, was in full flow as he smacked 134 with 11 fours and 10 maximums in his flourishing century before he was dismissed by Pavendra Persaud (3-11).

The burly right-hander dispatched anything within his range to once again stamp his authority against UG.

This century was his third consecutive ton against the students. Meanwhile, first-class player Tevin Imlach, who was flawless before his demise, grafted well for his 73, a knock which included eight fours and a six. He was dismissed by seamer Devon Paul. (Royston Alkins photo)

Derwin Christian (31) was the other batsman to register a major contribution as left-arm spinner Damien Vantull ended as UG’s most threatening bowler with 374.

Earlier in the day, UG were sent in and experienced a torrid time, being bundled out for 94 in the 31st over. Only Pavendra Persaud (39) made any score of worth as Barnwell ran riot by snapping up 6-16 from eight overs during a spell which included a hat trick. Carlton Jacques (3-12) supported Barnwell’s effort.

Day two begins at 9:30hrs.
