Rio All Stars edge Gold is Money in final

Rio All-Stars won secured their maiden championsh­ips, defeating Gold is Money 1-0 to clinch the inaugural President’s Cup Streetball Knockout Championsh­ip on Friday.

Staged at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, Jermin Junior settled the outcome following a scoreless first half period compliment­s of a 27th minute conversion. The goal occurred following a swift counteratt­ack and Junior slotted from the left side of the area into the right corner after an intercepti­on in the middle of the playing area.

Due to the outcome, Rio All-Stars pocketed $500,000, with the losing finalists receiving $300,000. In the third place playoff, Swag Entertainm­ent edged Sparta Boss 2-1. Daniel Wilson and Kendolph Lewis scored in the 14th and 19th minute each. For the losers, Keifer Brandt netted in the 10th minute.

With the win, Swag walked away with $100,000. On the other hand, the loser received $50,000. In the earlier semifinal matches, Gold is Money edged Swag Entertainm­ent 4-3 on sudden death penalty kicks after regulation time ended 2-2.

Prior to the penalty shootout, Randolph Wagner and Andrew Murray scored in the 10th and 37th minute respective­ly for Gold is Money.

For the losers, Kendolph Lewis and Colin Nelson found the back of the net in the 20th and 38th minute respective­ly. Meanwhile Rio All-Stars defeated Sparta Boss 2–1 on penalty kicks after normal time ended 1-1.

Prior to the eventual result, Cecil Jackman handed Rio the lead in the ninth minute, only for Sparta Boss to level proceeding­s in the form of Gregory Richardson in the 19th minute.
