Hello Boys and Girls,
This week we will learn about Local Government – what they do and how they work together with other levels of government.
What is Local Government?
You may have noticed sanitation workers clearing clogged drains and trenches in your community and collecting and disposing of your household garbage.
Or the people who build and repair our roads and bridges and those who upkeep our public parks and gardens, such as the National Park and Botanical and Promenade gardens where you and your family go to play or relax. These are all Local Government workers.
Our country, Guyana has three tiers or levels of government:
The citizens of each region choose some of these officers from within their region to lead them. Who do you think will have more interest and knowledge in the affairs of your region or community than the people who reside there? What are the main functions of the RDCs? Let’s find out:

To identify needs of citizens and deliver services in a more way. Some services they deliver include health, education, culture, recreation, transportation, and public works.
To develop facilities which are essential for the well-being of

To identify projects which can create revenue to assist the Region carrying out works necessary for the Region’s development
The Neighbourhood Democratic Council
Each NDC covers a small area within each Administrative Region and is supervised by a chairman, vice-chairman and councillors. The main functions of the NDCs include:
