Dear Editor,

I woke up today feeling like an eel having done something I realized was very irresponsible and stupid.

At the time, all I could think about was myself and how good it would be to take a break from my lockdown with two of my best friends of many years standing and one of their sons.

We went by the sea-wall between Camp Street and Vlissengen Road to a quiet place where Michelle the vendor took good care of us. We sat under her tent and enjoyed some cool beers, the fresh midday Atlantic breeze and some good old talk while breathing in that lovely salt air

I have to admit that the feeling was good especially to be with friends I held close and dear but the fact still remains that we acted irresponsibly by sending the wrong message to those who may have passed and seen persons who should be setting the example doing quite the opposite.

This epidemic is deadly as we know all too well and does not discriminate by race or any other social standing. What surprised me most, is that while liming a police pick-up drove slowly by, saw us and made no attempt to move us on. We were there for over three hours and while we all wore masks to get there we would have to remove them to drink our beer. Michelle also wore a mask and had an ample supply of hand sanitizer but everything we touched including the upholstered arm chairs would have been deadly carriers.

My message to every Guyanese is do not follow our shortsightedness and venture out of your homes if you do not have to.

Thanks guys for the wonderful time but let’s do the right thing and “Stay ya’ll tails home”.

Our families deserve and expect better of us.
