The woman who has been arrested after the fatal stabbing her common-law husband at Mabaruma, in Region One, on Friday afternoon had been the prime suspect in the disappearance of her father in 2017.

Eustace Marcellino, 85, of Mabaruma, was reported missing on April 3, 2017. He reportedly left home to go to the backdam and never returned. Family members and members of the Joint Services subsequently conducted several searches but these were in vain.

Some of Marcellino’s clothing and a mosquito net with blood were subsequently found.

Following his disappearance, the suspect had reportedly collected Marcellino’s pension while telling persons that he was ill and could not collect the funds himself. The woman was later questioned in relation to his disappearance but was never charged since investigators did not have enough evidence to link her to the crime.

Colin Campbell, 49, a businessman, was stabbed once to his abdomen during an argument with the suspect on Friday. The suspect was taken into custody and has reportedly admitted to the killing.

Sunday Stabroek understands that the couple previously operated a disco, known as the “Golden Hole”, where the stabbing took place.

The two had been drinking prior to having a heated argument during which the woman allegedly armed herself with a knife and stabbed Campbell. He collapsed and died on the spot.

Police recovered the suspected murder weapon at the scene.
