Modelling agency partners with franchise holder to scout and prep Miss World Guyana contestants

-

Crowned, a modelling agency, has announced a partnership with Majesty International, the franchise holder of Miss World Guyana.

With the partnership, the agency will now be responsible for the scouting of contestants for the national competition and preparing them to not only compete in the local competition but to also represent

Guyana on the international stage no matter who wins.

In a statement issued last Monday, the agency said it will be preparing, protecting and supporting individuals who are interested in the industries of modelling and pageantry. The modelling agency’s efforts to find prospective contestants was expected to begin this weekend at Skeldon and at Scottburgh Beach in Berbice, while its team is slated to be in Linden on April 24 and on the Essequibo Coast on May 15.

The Miss World Guyana Organization and Crowned have collaborated in an effort to restructure the competition to smoothly pull off the competition in a virtual setting. Some of the activities undertaken will be done virtually, while some will be done in a physical setting.

Unlike previous years when contestants contested the competition from the quarterfinals up, this year’s competition begins at the semifinals from which 10 ladies will be shortlisted for the finals. The finalists will compete in Debate, Talent, Beach Model, Sports and Fitness, Performance

Review, and Beauty With A Purpose challenges.

Natasha Martindale, National Director of the competition, took up the responsibility of Miss World Guyana in 2013. Every year after that Guyana’s representatives have placed in the top ten of various categories: Talent, Sports and Beauty with a Purpose. Last year, however, there was no competition owing to the onset of the COVID pandemic.

The winner of the competition will get the opportunity to wear the ‘Victoria Regia’ crown, currently being designed by D.S. Jewelers. This is the first time, the competition’s sashes will be designed locally. The contract for the designing and making of the sashes was given to Meera Sukhdeo.

Miss World Guyana 2021 will be the winner of a Toyota Vitz plus $500,000 in cash. She will also be the face of John Lewis Styles, which will also sponsor $250,000 in the finest brands of clothing for the queen. Among the other prizes are vouchers from Classic Styles as well as other major styles, being the face of Total Luggage, dental checkups and cleaning from the Cheddi Jagan Dental Centre, Skincare treatment from Bella Oasis, among other things.

To be considered for the contest, applicants are required to be young women between the ages of 17 and 26; Guyanese through birth, heritage or naturalisation; unmarried and without children; of reasonable health and sound mind; able to meet the terms and conditions, time committment, and title responsibilities as set forth by the local and international competitions; and meet character criteria as set forth by the Miss World Organization.
