Police force mourns passing of Corporal Austin

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Friday laid to rest Corporal 19784 Clifford Joel Austin, who died earlier this month after succumbing to a prolonged illness.

In a statement, the GPF said that Austin died on September 11, 2021. He was last stationed at the Lethem Police Station traffic department.

A number of colleagues and family members turned up at the Catholic Church in Lethem for the funeral service of Austin on Friday to pay their last respects. During the church service, several persons shared fond memories of Austin, who they remembered as an easy going person with a jovial attitude towards life.

Officer-in-Charge of Traffic Region 9, Sergeant Kennyata Bishop shared that Austin was always ready and willing to help, and was very knowledgeable in the area of traffic education, while Commander of Region Nine, Superintendent Raphael Rose, who represented the Commissioner of Police, extended deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family of Austin. He said that Austin joined the GPF in 2004 and completed his training at the Felix Austin Police College.

After completing his training, Austin was posted to then ‘A’ Division where he later joined the Traffic Department. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal and worked at the traffic headquarters after which he was transferred to Region Nine on October 12, 2020, to the Lethem Police Station. There, he continued to conduct lectures at schools, radio programmes and traffic education and enforcement within the Region.

Austin was born on June 21, 1986.
