Climate zones of the earth

-

The earth is divided into three main climate zones. They are:

1. The Tropical Zone 2. The Temperate Zone 3. The Polar Zone

These zones are separated by the special imaginary lines of latitude that run across the surface of the earth: the equator, Tropic of Cancer, Tropic of Capricorn, Arctic Circle and Antarctic Circle.

The Tropical Zone is situated near the equator. It lies between the Tropics, the area between the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern Hemisphere and the Tropic of Capricorn in the Southern hemisphere. It spreads out from 0o to 23 ½ o in each of the hemispheres. The Tropical Zone is also referred to as the Tropics and the Torrid Zone. Torrid means very hot; most places in the zone are hot with high temperatures throughout the year. However, rain falls from time to time during the year. May, June and December are the months known for heavy rainfall whereas, the months of August and September are dry and the heat of the sun is intense.

The Tropical Zone includes all the major deserts of the world such as the Sahara Desert, the Arabian Desert and the Atacama Desert. Snow-capped mountains like the Andes and Mount Kilimanjaro are also included in this zone.

Now let us identify the main climate zones of the world.

Identify the continents or parts of continents located in the Tropical zone. See how many countries you can name in the Tropical Zone.

The Tropical Zone includes most of Africa, Southern parts of Asia, Southern parts of India, Indonesia, New Guinea, Northern areas of Australia, Northern parts South America (Guyana and Brazil are included), Central America and southern areas of Mexico.

Goodbye boys and girls! Please be safe and healthy. I hope you enjoyed the session.
