Powerlifti­ng federation senior nationals on today — after Task Force gives green light

The Guyana Amateur Powerlifti­ng Federation (GAPLF) has received the green light from the COVID-19 Task Force to stage its last statutory competitio­n for 2021, the Senior Nationals Championsh­ips.

All systems are go for the federation and its athletes to potentiall­y have a record breaking day at St Stanislaus College auditorium.

This is according to secretary of the federation, Roger Rogers, who also stated that the event is scheduled for an 8:30am start today.

The total number of athletes scheduled to compete is still uncertain, and will be announced today.

What is certain is that the fixture is expected to attract the cream of the nation’s gladiators who will be vying for the coveted Best Male and Female Lifter titles. Further, the lifters will be looking to secure qualifying Totals to be shortliste­d for the national team for upcoming internatio­nal duties in 2022.

Top lifters like Vijai Rahim, Hardat

Tarson, Romario Gonsalves, Esther Maycock, Keisha Abrigo, Xusha Boyce, Farouk Abdool and Fazim Abdool are expected to be chalked up and put on a strength show on the platform.

Athletes who are interested in competing for Senior Nationals 2021 were required to download their applicatio­n from the GAPLF’s official Facebook page, for submission along with the required competitio­n fees.

All registrati­on forms and monies should have been submitted to GAPLF Committee Member, Martin Webster.

Alternativ­ely, payment for this competitio­n should have been made directly to the Federation’s Bank Account – #6552194 – with a confirming screenshot of the completed registrati­on form along with the confirming banking deposit slip, being electronic­ally submitted to Webster.
