GFF launches Blue Water Shipping Girls Under-15 Developmental League
The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) yesterday officially launched the Blue Water Shipping Girls Under-15 Developmental League at the National Training Centre, Providence, East Bank Demerara, with the respective member associations receiving equipment to kick-off the maiden championship.
GFF President Wayne Forde remarked, “It is so important that as we implement our mission here in Guyana, that we recognize the importance of making football accessible to all of our young people. And that is why this tournament will be played across every region in this country. We will have Blue Water U15 games being played in Region One, Region Nine, Region Ten, Region Five, Region Six, across the entire area of 83,000 square miles.”
He added, “This is the mandate that we have from FIFA and I believe Blue Water as an enduring partner is giving us the necessary support we need to deliver on that mandate. I want to use this occasion to say thank you to the management of Blue Water.”
Blue Water Shipping Country Manager Richard DeNobrega had this to say, “What we do in partnership with the Federation, is to encourage as Wayne rightly mentioned, the team spirit of football, to transcend and to go in these young ladies to have a future and also to make our country even better than it already is.”
The GFF signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Blue Water Shipping for the staging of a girls U-15 Developmental League in February.
The MoU was signed between GFF President Forde and Blue Water Shipping Country Manager De Nobrega. The tournament was pencilled for commencement in April, with a minimum of 10 teams targeted to feature in every regional member association. The participation of
academic institutions is also not being ruled out.
After the intra-association leg of the event, a national playoff will occur in July to crown the overall winner. The competition will serve as the platform for the staging
of talent identification and eventual squad selection for the Concacaf Championship in August.
